Workshops at Ossipee

Join us for our educational workshop series at the festival! Our 501c3 nonprofit The North Atlantic Arts Alliance provides us with not only incredible music performances, but music education opportunities as well! Our workshop series are always unique, featuring a healthy mix of traditional acoustic instrument workshops along with favorites such as songwriting or harmony singing, and cultural and stylistic demonstrations and history as well! 

11:15am  Bruce Molsky - Fiddle

Join Grammy Nominated legendary fiddler Bruce Molsky for an intimate look at his fiddling style and how he thinks about the voice of the fiddle in bluegrass, old time, and other musical styles. Bruce has performed with everyone from Jerry Douglas to Mark Knopfler, Tony Trischka, and many others. Come Listen, come play!

12:30pm  Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley - Guitar/Dobro Duo Interplay

Hensley made his first Grand Ole Opry debut at age 11 with Marty Stuart; Ickes is a founding member of the supergroup Blue Highway. As a duo they've shared the stage with everyone from Taj Mahal to David Grisman. Learn how they approach arranging tunes for two string instruments of a similar range, and how they bring wide influences into the final results of their unique style.

1:30pm  Harmony Workshop

If you love to sing, but you've always felt a little uncertain about how to add harmonies to your singing, this workshop is for you! the basic 101 of making magic with harmony singing.

2:30pm  Farayi Malek - Songwriting

Farayi Malek is a songwriter, performer, and educator teaching at Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory. Come hear how she approaches writing songs from structure, to melody, to communicating meaning and emotion.

3:30pm Lone Piñon - Tunes and Dances

Join Lone Piñon to learn by ear two-three traditional Northern New Mexican dance tunes and their corresponding dance steps. Musicians can learn how melodic style and physical experience merge and inform each other, then put it all together! Dancers and musicians welcome!

11:30am  Fabiola Méndez - The Cuatro

Join Emmy-nominated composer and cuatrista, Fabiola Méndez, for an introduction to the musical style, history, and cultural significance of Puerto Rico's Cuatro, and the rhythms and styles of music which are traditionally played on that instrument, as well as how Fabiola blends this tradition into her own unique style that incorporates folk, jazz, and Afro-Caribbean influences.

12:30pm  The Alum Ridge Boys & Ashlee - Old Time Style

Join this Virginia based group for a look at what kind of music lives at the intersection between bluegrass and old time music. How are these styles different, how geography has influenced many different flavors of old time, and what harmonies, arrangements, and tunes stand out in defining this style.

1:30pm  The Legacy Hazel Dickens

This year we celebrate Hazel Dickens 100th birthday! Join the all female Hazel Project to hear some tunes of Hazel's and learn a little about her story, her music, and how the group approaches arranging her music in 2025.

2:30pm  Family Dance

Join Steve Roy and the Old Hat String Band for a fun for all ages dance where you'll be smiling, clapping your hands, and dancing along to some great music!

3:30pm  Songwriting Circle

Join former Maine Songwriting Association President and 317 Main Academy teacher, Ted DeMille, for a songwriting circle where folks can share their songs in a receptive environment and give/receive supportive feedback that helps you develop your voice.
